part 30: (nicholas)

Tasha and tom have been seeing eachother more often since toms first meeting with nicholas. And nick really enjoys all the attention and gifts that tom gives on almost every visit.

Besides the gifts, tom seems to be playing a great part in nicks life as a fatherly figure. He bonds with him and even took him out alone a few times without tasha.

Tom had an idea to propose to tasha but he first wanted to make sure that he would be able to accept nick completely.

He had no idea who nicks father was either and frankly, he felt like it was none of his business. Tashas past should be left just there.. In her past.

He does know that tasha was never married before and that nicks father was nowhere in the picture till now so that was more than enough for him.

He loved tasha dearly and felt like she was most certainly the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

He was never a womans man. He thrived on commitment. He had a few relationships which lasted quite long but he never took advantage of any womans naivety or innocence. He respected women the way that they deserve to be respected and when things didn’t work out too well in his previous relationships, he left in a good manner. No paSsing around of ugly words or insults.

He wasn’t ready to settle down before because he always felt like he needed financial security.

Tom was a saver yet he spent where it was necessary too. He had sort of a balance there.

Because surely over spending would leave one bankrupt and over saving would make one miserly.

So he invested in his own car, his own home, his own business. And now that things looked financially secure enough for him, he was ready to now invest in a family to enjoy his other investments.

Living alone in a mansion wasn’t very fun. Tom often imagined having his own kids running around in the garden some day and a wife to come home to after a long and stressful day at the office.

Tom noticed how distant nick could be at times and how he froze when there were too many people around. But he also realised that there was more to nick that meets the eye.

He wasn’t really that bad, he was probably just the result of a broken home and lack of love and attention. Nothing a little bit of extra time couldn’t heal.

Tom was ready to propose. Not only was he ready to have tasha as his wife, but he’d chosen nick as his son too and hopefully they could still have another kid or 2 of their own before they got too old. Now was the perfect time.

He planned it all out carefully. He won nick over already and knew that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea for him. He wouldn’t freak out.

Tom booked a table for 3 at one of the top restaurants in tashas town. Maybe it wasn’t all that romantic to have nick there when he proposed. But he felt that it was important to involve nick in this big decision.

He understood that it wasn’t just tasha and him. And whatever they did in their lives, nick would have to always be included.

Nick threw a tantrum as usual about going out to a public place again. He just wanted to stay home and watch movies till late.

“Why don’t the 2 of you go? I don’t want to be 3rd wheel…” Nick said annoyed.

Tasha filled tom in about nicks tantrums before he came to pick them up so when tom arrived, he asked tasha for some privacy with nick.

He took him on a short walk around the flat and discussed what his plans were.

This small gesture made a world of a difference. Nick felt important. That his opinion mattered and that he wasn’t just a kid anymore.

“So kiddo… I asked your mum to bring you along cos today was kinda supposed to be a special night for all of us…” Tom began to explain himself..

“But you guys know I hate tagging along everywhere. I’m not a kid anymore..” Nick whined.

“Don’t you wana atleast know what the special occasion is first?” Tom asked with a straight face.

Nick paused a little and then shrugged.. “Does it matter? I still don’t wana come”

“Nick?” Tom said while turning nick to face him… “Have you ever thought of what your life would be like if you had a father?”

Nick turned to look away… “No.. Not really…”

“Well what if I said that I wanted to be a father to you?” Tom asked clarifying himself

Nick looked at him with big eyes.

Tom laughed and then punched nick playfully in the arm…” Yeah big shot.. Just spoil the surprise. I was going to propose to your mum today and wanted you there for support….”
