part 32: (hanzalah)

**”Bismillahir rahmaanir raheem”
-in the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful-**

All this time that naseema has been sick, abdullah had his hopes up that the next baby was on its way.

The symptoms were all there. The nausea, the loss of appetite, the bloated stomach, the fatigue…

He didn’t want to ask naseema because she would obviously tell him when she was sure but he was hoping for it. Even when he found her rolling on the floor, he was almost certain that she was expecting. That’s why he insisted on taking her to the hospital, because then he would know whether she was expecting or not which he really wished for.

Right uptil now. Naseema had thrown up all over the bedroom floor and had a look of horror on her face that matched that of abdullahs..

“Yaa Allah…….!” Abdullah exclaimed, fear echoed in his voice

Hanzalah had heard his father and rushed to the bedroom too..

“Abba? Ummi jaan? Are you…” He too had joined in their fear.

There was no 2 ways about it. Naseema had to be rushed to the hospital immediately. This was serious. Naseema had regurgitated a whole lot of blood. She hadn’t eaten anything red and the metallic taste in her mouth confirmed that it was most certainly blood.

“Hanzalah beta.. I’m going to rush ummi to the hospital. Will you help to carry habeeba and bring her along? Or would you rather stay behind at home?” Abdullah asked his son

“I don’t know abba. How will I know what is going to happen? I’m not afraid of staying at home. I’m afraid of what’s going to happen to ummi and if habeeba wakes up! She’s going to ask for ummi too and you know that I cannot lie to her..” Hanzalah spoke out his concerns to his father.

Abdullah pinched his eyes shut with his thumb and index finger of his right hand and thought for a while about what the best decision would be. He silently prayed to Allah for guidance and to make his wife well.

“Okay beta. Help me get ummi into the car and then grab habeeba and chaal…. Let’s get moving. I think we’ve already wasted too much time with ummi. We should never have listened to her in the first place those many weeks ago when she was ill. We should have just got her to a doctor. Nevertheless.. Its Allahs will..” Abdullah said in a hurried tone

Habeeba was a heavy sleeper and continued to sleep all the way to the hospital and in the waiting room on hanzalahs lap aswel.

Abdullah continued the procedures after he had taken her in through casualty. Naseema was looking weaker by the minute and looked pale in the face and like she was going to pass out at any minute.

The nurses, sensing the urgency of the matter, continued with naseema in the meantime. Her blood pressure was terribly low and by the looks of it, naseema was quite anaemic.

hanzalah could not understand how his perfect life was just falling apart suddenly. Had he done something wrong that Allah was punishing him in this way?

Had he not been a good enough son and now Allah was punishing him by making his mother ill?

He prayed to be more obedient. To stop making his ummi shout and get angry. He prayed that Allah should spare her life and make it not be anything serious.

Naseema was placed in the ward and put on a drip. Habeeba wasn’t allowed in as she was too little and the doctors suggested that they all go home to rest.

“Mrs gujiwala is stabilised for now. We will monitor her, why don’t you get some rest mr gujiwala? You can return in the morning. We’ll only start doing all the tests in the morning anyway.” The doctor said sympathetically.

It was already 2am and both hanzalah and abdullah were quite exhausted. Habeeba was beginning to get restless too so they all decide to head home for a few hours.

The house felt empty the next morning without naseemas usual love and warmth being passed around. Everyone was morbid and monotonously did what was needed to be done.

Hanzalah stayed at home with habeeba who continuously asked for her mother.

“Ummi is not well okay? You make lots of dua that Allah makes her well fast and she can come home.” Hanzalah consoled his sister.

He looked after her for the rest of the morning while abdullah stayed with naseema all through the many blood tests and examinations she had to go through.

Finally in the late afternoon the results were received..

“Mr and mrs gujiwala.. I’m afraid we have some very bad news…” The doctor began reluctantly. “The tests reveal that mrs gujiwala has cancer of the stomach..”

Allah make it easy for everyone going through any type of difficulty in their lives bcz no one’s life is test/trial free everyone goes through difficulty in their own way..

On a lighter note the difficulty South Africans are going through is “load shedding” ๐Ÿ™‚
