Hilda was restless… She couldn’t decide what the right thing was to do. Should they report the abuse? But beth was her sister. She felt like it was wrong to report her sister.
Mike was busy watching TV and hilda had just put sabreen off to sleep a while ago.
She has never had children and having sabreen just seemed to be filing the void that she’s felt all these years. She always dreamt of having a little girl who she could mother and put to sleep every night. Who she could read a story to and watch the astonishment in the little beings eyes. It all felt too good to be true. If only the circumstances were different.
So hilda read a bedtime story to sabreen who listened eagerly at the fairytale of cinderella. It was so apt for her life. She was the 3rd child aswel and she too was ill treated. But even cinderella found her prince and her happiness oneday.
But that’s just fairytales. Life is so much more complicated than they tell us in books. There’s so much that one goes through to attain that happiness and its not all happily ever after once you’ve found that happiness. In life there will always be ups and downs.
Hilda decided to pick up the phone and give her sister a call…
“Hey beth…. How are you doing?” Hilda spoke through the telephone.
“Hilda? I’m fine! Why do you ask?” Beth was straight to the point.
“I’m your sister elizabeth. Is it wrong for me to ask how you are?”. Hilda retorted.
“What makes you call at this strange hour?” Beth ignored hildas previous statement.
“Well, I’ve been thinking about you. A lot actually. And I just decided to give you a call.” Hilda stated
She thought about whether she should get straight to the point with beth. Whether she should tell her that sabreen was with them or whether she should lie and act as if she knows nothing and see what lies beth comes up with.
But hilda learnt in church that lying was a sin. And there was no was that God was going to be on her side if she lied about anything.
“Beth… Sabreens with us!” Hilda let out after some thought
There was dead silence on the other end. Hilda thought that beth had dropped the call.
“Hello? Elizabeth? Are you there?” Hilda asked
“That girl deserves nothing. She’s as rotten as it gets. Did she use her sympathy card on you?” Beth asked bitterly
“No actuallay she didn’t. We offered to bring her to stay with us. I asked you before and you never really gave me an answer. So I’m going to ask you again. Have you and sam had enough time to think about it? Can mike and I have sabreen?” Hilda asked calmly as if though she was doing some kind of a business deal.
“Well yes we have thought about it and no she can not stay with you. You’re asking for trouble hilda. Has she not told you how she tried to seduce her own father? Imagine what a wretched child she is. Your own father? Isn’t that disgusting.” Beth replied
“Well yes she has told me. But I’m not so sure you have the story correctly. You wouldn’t know much though since you’re half your life drunk or sleeping.” Helda said
“Excuse me? Who the hell are you to talk to me like that?” Beth screamed through the phone.
“Why are you screaming elizabeth? No-ones screaming. I’m talking calmly like adults should talk. There’s no need to shout.” Hilda was still calm as she scolded her sister
“Look! I’m giving you 2 days to get sabreen back here or I will report you for kidnapping. Do you understand me? And if you don’t bring her back and she ends up sleeping with your husband too, then don’t say I didn’t warn you!” Beth threatened
Hilda laughed sarcastically. “Funny how I was thinking the exact same thing. I also thought of reporting you elizabeth. For what you may ask? Physical abuse? Emotional abuse? Mental abuse? Hmm.. Oh yes and your wonderful husband over there for trying to rape his own daughter? The list is endless… Would you like me to still continue?”
“You…….!!! you are talking bull…. And no-ones going to believe that crap. The girl is crazy I tell you.. She’s crazy!” Beth was still shouting angrily. Even more so now.
“Oh and don’t forget! We have witnesses and evidence to prove it all too…” Hilda continued. “So you decide little sister. Either you hand sabreen over in an ammicable manner with all paper work complete and you’re safe from the inner recesses of a prison ward. Or you can choose to have her taken away by social services and still rot in a prison cell. Give it some thought and I’ll call you back tomorrow for your final decision.”. And hilda put the phone down. She felt a wave of relief come over her.
She was going to fight not only for sabreen, but for justice too. Sam and beth need to pay for what they’ve done to this innocent soul
